Marathon Road Running Races take place over the distance of 42.2 kilometres (or 26.2 miles). The marathon is often a bucketlist item for many, especially a city marathon in your home town. The story goes that a Greek soldier named Pheidippides (a military messenger) ran between the towns of ‘Marathon’ and Athens to report the military victory. The Marathon is one of the original Olympic events in 1896.
The events shown below all have a standard road marathon (42.2km) road distance event. Many of the marathons also serve as qualifiers for South Africa’s world famous Ultramarathons: the Two Oceans Marathon and the Comrades Marathon.
